With its reputed connection to Gaspard de Besse, the French Robin Hood, this may be the most romantic of all. The Auberge is a 17th-century coaching inn with 10 recently renovated rooms, each named to reflect its ambiance – Dolce Vita, Gala, Paloma, Bohème, Tosca and so forth. One room has a huge bathtub reached by a flight of marble steps, another a piano. This is definitely the spot for a lovers’ tryst; a private sitting room is available on request. If you aren’t planning to spend time in your room as opposed to the sitting room, pick someplace else. The hotel features a gastronomic restaurant and offers room discounts with some of its more expensive menus. Given the quality of the accommodation and setting, the prices are really remarkable. It is possible to stay here at the height of the summer season for well under euro 200 per night. For romantic adventurers, the hotel also offers a good value package that includes two nights, breakfast, one dinner, a half-day of canyoning and a mountain bike outing ith trail maps and picnic.
